Microsoft Communities

Phizzpop is a new part of MIX Online that lets agency designers and developers interact, share, and show off their stuff.  We're going to be officially announcing this at ReMIX Boston in a few days, but we're publishing the link a few days early along with this demo and interview to show you what Phizzpop is about.

In addition to the demo (you can also try Phizzpop for yourself), Paul and Mark talk about how they designed and developed the site.  It was built by Ascentium, using Community Server as the underlying engine.  One interesting tidbit: all three of the Silverlight gadgets are built on the same base code, but provide three very different user experiences.

Stay tuned for some coverage of some Phizzpop design contests and awards leading up to MIX08!

@felix: confirmed FF embedded player is broke; we're fixing it now.  You can play the downloadable version in the meantime (
WMV on Windows, MP4 on Mac).

It's actually using MP4 streaming for the FF player; we're upgrading to Silverlight player on Nov 1.  In this case, looks like a silly JavaScript error, though.

Thanks for reporting!

Hi,

video playback is broken on this page. Not such a good advert for MIX/MS/Silverlight.
When clicking the video play button the first time I got an error popup: "Could not locate 'mpPlayer242'". Second time it crashed my browser after showing a quicktime logo. I'm using Vista/Firefox. I'm guessing this page will work on IE7, but didn't test it.

For Windows Live ID, try signing out and signing back in using the 'Sign In' Button on PhizzPop.  Use your existing Live ID and it will forward you to the profile creation page.

@mcp111: can you send me an e-mail at joshuaa (at) microsoft.com with your browser version (FF, IE, etc.) and OS (Win, Mac, etc) so we can reproduce the issue and help troubleshoot?

@lorimac: lots of people are still using IE6, and the site is supposed to work on IE6.  We'll investigate -- thanks for reporting!

Note that Dave Shea (the guy who runs csszengarden.com) has been a judge for the MIX reskinning contest we held for the past two years.  The site supports reskinning exactly like zengarden, and we've had some amazing designs and cool prizes in the past couple of years.  Stay tuned in the coming months for the third annual contest.

We know there are some HTML issues with the current site; the various pieces are delivered by a mix of different teams so we sometimes make mistakes.  The implementation team is doing an overhaul on Nov 1.  In the meantime, if you subscribe to the RSS feed and read in something like Newgator or Google Reader it should look fine.

@lorimac: There are still many people running IE6, so we don't want to break them.  It definitely shouldn't be breaking on IE6; we'll investigate.  Thanks for reporting!

FYI, Dave Shea (the guy who runs css zengarden) has served as a judge for the MIX site reskinning contest we've held for the past two years.  It's a contest where you can win prizes and a trip to MIX by changing the CSS for the site identical to how zengarden works.  We're updating the site around November 1 to support the contest for next year.

this visitmix website is a mess!...the styles are broken, the content is floating to the bottom of the page IE 6 (yes, many designers that work for large companies are still running IE 6). Really, really terrible bad for a site that is promoting DESIGN. Maybe visit zengarden.com to learn about styles....

The Windows Live ID Sign IN button on phizzpop.visitmix.com does not seem to be working. If I click Sign In nothing happens even though I'm already signed in to Windows Live.
