Sarah Slobin
So, I'm a visual journalist which means...? I tell stories using data, diagrams, text and imagery. I spent 15 years at the New York Times as a graphics editor where I learned how to report the story from the ground up, how to mine and display data, how to write, design, edit and negotiate for space simultaneously developing an addiction to deadline adrenalin.
For a couple of years I ran the NYT financial news graphics team, which led me to a job as the infographics director at Fortune magazine and that was an explosively creative time for me — like going from an orchestra to a rock band. Plus, I got to play with the folks at CNN/Money. I now work at the Wall Street Journal helping to lay the groundwork for the next generation of visual editors (and collaborate with my partner Tommy McCall, assisting him in his quest to bring infographics to the masses!)
I live in Brooklyn with my husband Eric Palma, an accomplished illustrator, my terrific kid, Isabel, and our brindle rescue mutt that Izzy named, Sketch.
