@sanny: Sorry, I was not clear. Search Monkey is real, as I said in my earlier post on the subject. What I was talking about is the promised futures for BOSS. They are talking about allowing you to push your own information to the index, so that you can do your results aggregation server-side. Seems the planned future of BOSS is very interesting, but is not yet available.

@nate: and there are admittedly some cool scenarios for BOSS. The me.dium example is a perfect example of the kinds of scenarios. You could imagine something that tweaks results based on friends, based on social bookmarks, and so on. It appears that Google's TOU was just too onerous to allow things like this earlier.

ZDN & CNET point is other sites can use YHOO search as a pluggable service. Just like you can use many other open-source applications in your own application.

What do you mean by "mostly vapor". The search monkey is already real.

Nice analysis as always. And you're right that Search Monkey is pretty badass. I just added a bunch of new Search Monkey plugins yesterday and am loving them.
