Bill Buxton Talks With Gary Hustwit,Creator of “Objectified” and “Helvetica”
Mar 21, 2009 By2011-03-31
One of the highlights of MIX09 was the private screening of the new movie Objectified with MIX attendees, and Q&A with Gary Hustwit afterward. Just before the screening, we captured a fascinating conversation between Bill Buxton and Gary on-camera. They started with a discussion of the difference between companies who highly value designers, and those who don’t, and then embarked on a wide-ranging discussion of trends in design. It was a real pleasure to be able to eavesdrop on two great design personalities, and we hope you enjoy!

Buxton can lure you into a dream-state talking about user experience and design. I had the good fortune of hearing him briefly describe his interest and research on human interaction with eReaders at a conference. Makes me wonder what Microsoft''s play in that area might be.
I thought the discussion of design investment as a rationale for economic survival ("design survival of the fittest") and the need for management that understands that - was a conversation I would like to hear more about.
What this video also demonstrates is a real need for annotation on video. Links to books Buxton mentions, for example. Will attempt to build an overlay and re-publish.

just use flash video, it won''t hurt you, it will help you
This video is unwatchable to me here due constant re-buffering as it tries to stream on Safari/Firefox. I can''t find it on youtube or vimeo.
It doesn''t download while paused either.
Any help!? — I''d love to watch it!
Thanks!

OK - I found a workaround.
1. Mute the audio (that interface is quite inconsistent!)
2. Go do some other things which it stutters it''s way through playing all the way through.
3. Plan come back to it later, drag slider to beginning, and watch in smooth linear fashion.
