DEEP ZOOM: MARDI GRAS DOWN UNDER

Mar 12, 2009 By

On March 7th, more than 300,000 people lined the streets of Sydney, Australia to watch the annual gay and lesbian Mardi Gras parade.  The event was brought to life by the Sydney Morning Herald Mardi Gras site for people all over the world through the use of Silverlight, Deepzoom, Expression and Azure. If you look really hard you can find the world’s coolest IE8 Webslice, if you find it, try resizing it!  (IE8 answer: click anywhere in the zoom, then press the “I” key on your keyboard).

Visit the blog of Delicate Genius for details on how it was created in less than a week!

This example of deep zoom is really amusing to use in Google Chrome. Move your mouse near the toolbar and it disappears, move it away and it reappears!!!!! I code for Silverlight and im facinated how they managed to make the app work in IE but not in Google Chrome. Cross platform/browser my butt!
